A Non Muslim view on fasting in the month of Ramadhan
A Non Muslim view on fasting in the month of Ramadhan
Well yesterday I tried fasting for a day so I thought why not I share my experience on fasting.Actually I have fasted a few times before this but I couldn't share my experience but since now I have a good platform to do so why not
Here it goes,my friend and I decided to iftar together yesterday so I said yes and he suggested that why not you try fasting for a day so I took up the challenge to fast for a day and I asked him all the details regarding fasting the timing the do's and dont's so that I fast in the correct way and not make fun of it
He said the last meal should be consumed at 5.40 a.m and I said okay and I set my alarm and went to sleep but here is the thing me and alarm are not good friends, the alarm rang and I did not respond and I slept off which means I did not eat at 5.40 am and my last meal was at 9pm the previous day
So when I woke up I realised I overslept and thought of stopping the fast but since I promised my friend I proceded. Trust me or not this one day of fasting make me realise alot of things and Im not exaggerating things up
So the day went on and today is the day I am required to present a case to my specialist (how ironic it is I choose the day I need to present as my fasting day) so I walked to the hospital from parking and seriously I thought on that day the sun was super hot maybe the sun is hot but I did not realise it but since today I was dehydrated due to fast the sun shine was really hot (kudos to mankind on global warming). Here is the deal on hot days our body usually sweats to cool the body down but since I was dehydrated I was sweating less and this add up to the heat
So I was presenting my case and my specialist she was fasting too but that did not stop her from riddling me with alot of questions and I manage to answer most of it eventhough I was super dry.On that day I saw many people drinking water infront of me and that really made me angry as I was dehydrated but I kept it to myself.I saw some non muslims said excuse me or was drinking away from the muslims this is simply a good gesture to show that they really care and respect the fasting muslims it doesn't take away your human rights on eating and drinking but it shows that you are concerned about others
The day goes on and I did not do much as I was saving as much energy I could, then I went to my friends house to fetch him for iftar. I was basically finding the fastest way to reach the shop as I was hungry and thirsty and my friend here asking me to go slow (he is used to fasting so he was okay since Im not my intention was to get to the shop asap). So after this when I see a muslim in the car Im going to give him way to reach home fast so that he can break fast on time.
We reached the shop and we ordered our food and the food reached 10 minutes before the break fasting time which is at 7.24pm.The water looked so beautiful to me on that day and the food was really tempting that is when I realise how important is food and water which most of us take it for granted
At that moment I was thankful I was born in a country where when I turn the tap on the water flows down without limitation and thankful to my parents, thanks to them when I come back home food is waiting for me and I don't have to sleep on an empty stomach
What more can I ask, Iphone?? Ipad?? Travel around the world?? Its okay Im already lucky with what I have and I choose to be happy with what I have. This are the few things I realised on this one fasting day which did not came to my realisation as I was searching for things that really doesn't matter and I forgot to appreciate things that really matters
I would urge the non muslims to try to fast for a day and go join your muslims friends for iftar it is really a good time for bonding and the fasting will make you realise many things and you can also understand other people culture which is really essential for the harmony of the country. So till here is my post for the day and I did not made it for bragging purpose or to exaggerate things but for the sole purpose of my experience.Hope you enjoyed it
Thank you
